Career Fair Coming Up

You will be excited to learn about the upcoming second annual Fort Bend County Public Sector Career Fair. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Rosenberg Civic & Convention Center at 3825 Texas 36 South. Connect with representatives from a huge line-up of agencies from Rosenberg, Richmond, Missouri City, Stafford, Katy, Fulshear, Meadows Place and Sugar Land.

Yolanda McLin, Assistant Personnel Director for the City of Rosenberg was quoted as saying “This Career Fair is only for Fort Bend County’s public sector agencies. Our goal is to encourage job seekers to look at employment opportunities with public sector agencies and most importantly to work, live and play in Fort Bend County. The Career Fair will also provide recruiters an opportunity to connect with qualified applicants.”

Take the bus to work from Fort Bend

Do you work in the Medical Center?

Bus service from Sugar Land to the Medical Center is scheduled to start September 2nd barring any snags. Buses will leave from UH-Sugar Land parking lot and stop at First Colony Mall before heading to the Medical Center.

Bus service is already active from Fort Bend to Greenway Plaza and the Galleria via TREKEXPRESS.

National employment vs. local Fort Bend employment stats

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics came out with interesting employment statistics over the past week. Nationally, unemployment is at a 4-year high while Fort Bend County had the largest over-the-year percentage increase in employment among the largest counties in the U.S., according to preliminary data released July 24th by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. Fort Bend County, which contains a portion of southwest Houston, experienced an over-the-year employment gain of 7.4 percent, compared with national job growth of 0.8 percent for the fourth quarter of 2007.

The Fort Bend County stats are for the end of 2007 while the national stats are more current for July 2008.
