Library’s Free Resources Help Job Hunters

Fort Bend County Libraries has free resources and tools to help job-hunters looking for a new job or career. The Sienna Branch Library will introduce these resources and how to use them at a special class, “Find That Great Job,” on Thursday,September 15, beginning at 7:00 pm, in the Computer Lab of the library, located at 8411 Sienna Springs Blvd in Missouri City.

Library staff will demonstrate some of the free library databases that provide help for job-hunters, particularly LearningExpress Library and Job & Career Accelerator. Those attending the program will also learn about helpful templates and tutorials that are available in the Microsoft Office suite of programs.

LearningExpress Library offers practice exams for a variety of fields, such as civil service jobs (for example — firefighters, EMTs, postal workers, and police officers), careers in teaching, nursing, real estate, and much more. The online practice tests provide instant scoring and feedback, and they may be repeated as many times as needed. This resource will help test-takers overcome test anxiety, gain confidence, and improve scores, while working at their own pace.

Job & Career Accelerator helps job-hunters create professional resumés and cover letters, get detailed and current information on a variety of occupations, match personal interests and skills with a desired career, improve interviewing skills, and much more.

The class is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, however, and reservations are required. To register online at the library’s website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us), click on “Calendar,” select “Sienna Branch,” and find the program. Participants may also register by calling the library at 281-238-2952, or by visiting the library.
